Financial Aid

It is your responsibility to meet with the Office of Financial Aid to find out if you are eligible for financial aid, and if so, how much you can estimate receiving. We recommend you do this early in the application process in order to know how you will fund your exchange program.

Timing of Financial Aid
  • Please be aware that the start-date of the program affects when financial aid will be disbursed. If you choose a program with a late start-date, you need to have additional means of support for the first several weeks you are in the country until your financial aid posts. This can be a very stressful time for students, so plan ahead and make sure that you have saved enough to pay for immediate living expenses in addition to upfront expenses, such as housing deposit, first and last month’s rent, flights, insurance, books, etc.
Financial Aid Rules
  • The amount of Financial Aid awarded is based on eligibility as well as the number of credits you are enrolled in. This is why it is so important for you to get approval for any changes you make to the number of courses/credits you are taking at the host university. If you drop a course at the host university and end up transferring fewer credits to FSU, you will be required to pay back any additional financial aid you have already received.
  • In order to receive Financial Aid you must be a full-time student. In addition, if you go below the number of credits required to be considered a full-time student, you will lose your financial aid eligibility and be required to pay any financial aid you have already received.
